Moving Timeline
7-8 Weeks Before Your Move
- Create a moving file
- Find a Moving Company that fits your needs
- Gather as much information as possible about your new location
- Gather all medical, dental and school records
4-6 Weeks Before You Move
- Size up what you will need to keep or get rid of
- Make a list of everything that will go with you
- Take pictures of your possessions for insurance purposes
- Purchase moving supplies and pack non essential items
- Pack each box with similar items i.e. weight and size
- Label your boxes
- Contact new property manager about moving rules and regulations
- File a change of address with the post office AND magazines
1-3 Weeks Before You Move
- Attend to Personal Items, i.e. jewelry, furs, photos, etc.
- Arrange to have services discontinued, i.e. water, electricity, phone, cable
- Fill all necessary prescriptions
- Plan meals for the last week so the refrigerator will be as empty as possible
- Clean your house and avoid using the cleaned applicances
- Return library books, pick up dry cleaners, items in repair shops; etc.
- Finish packing
- Call the utility companies in your new location and get new services hooked up, if possible. Be sure to get this information from the property manager at your new apartment home.
Moving Day
- Load the Truck in pre designated order, i.e. make the last load your first load at your new apartment home
- Check all rooms before you leave
- Turn keys in to the manager and be sure they have your new mailing address
- Arrive before the movers arrive at your new apartment home
- Unpack with a plan
